"Like so many others, I’ve struggled with yo-yo weight for decades.
Now I’ve reached an age where being overweight started to have real consequences — and I was very overweight.
At my heaviest, I weighed 133 kg (20 st 13 lb) and I’m 180 cm tall. I suffered from sleep apnoea and slept with a CPAP machine.
I initially lost 12 kg (1 st 12 lb) on a mixed approach — some Nupo combined with sensible, everyday food — up until January 2025, when I started the Nupo 800 kcal per day VLCD programme. I followed it for 20 weeks with minimal additional food. By that, I mean I may have slipped and eaten something solid about once a month.
I’ve since lost a further 30 kg (4 st 10 lb) and am now down to 90 kg (14 st 2 lb). My goal is 80 kg (12 st 8 lb).
At the beginning, I used a variety of products — oatmeal, soups and meals — but I eventually switched to 100% shakes because they’re incredibly easy, and I’ll admit I’m a bit lazy.
All of this weight loss happened without exercise. However, I’ve now reached a point where physical activity has become part of my routine. I walk daily and run three times a week.
My sleep apnoea is gone. I no longer snore, and I simply feel better overall.
Clothes — ah, my sore point! Everything I own is now far too big.
I’ve gone from a size 42 waist to a 34.
Polo shirts used to be 3–4 XL; now, depending on the brand, I’m down to XL or 2XL."
